Overview
The Earth Mother and the Mother of Monsters are not two separate gods. They are two aspects of a single spirit — an energy that travels through the Astral Plane and, on Zoratha (a world of dualities), manifests in dual form.
Deep theological research reveals an unavoidable truth: one cannot exist without the other. The creative force of the Earth Mother requires the destructive force of the Mother of Monsters to have meaning, and vice versa. When this truth is genuinely understood — not just intellectually, but accepted — cohabitation becomes possible, and the eternal territorial conflict eases.
The difficulty is the material world. Followers living in physical bodies with real stakes — land, livestock, children — cannot easily accept that their god's enemy is also their god. The material nature of existence makes every follower want to win the chess match. Imbalance and drama are the natural result.
On Ardentis
Ardentis represents a rare case: near-cohabitation was essentially reached between the two aspects and their followers. The divine compact that ceded the Latan Swamp to the Mother of Monsters while preserving the surrounding lands for the Earth Mother's peoples was a functional, stable arrangement.
This balance held for centuries — until the mass migration from the Shadowlands. The arrival of human and dwarven settlers from the south reintroduced pressure, encroachment, and the familiar pattern of followers who cannot accept the duality.
Iceflame's disruption of the giant compact (~4716 AR) has further destabilized this balance, allowing the Mother of Monsters to expand her influence beyond her sanctioned territory.
The Temple of Primordial Evil
The Temple of Primordial Evil near Xas is, at its root, a structure built by the Mother of Monsters — the home of Aerom Latan, her child husband, placed on the material plane as a permanent seed of her presence in the South Forest. This was not aggression but anchor: a node of the destructive aspect maintained even in a region trending toward cohabitation.
