Aberum

Origin

Aberum was a human monk from the eastern kingdoms who studied the ways of The Flame and refined his discipline to a point that should not have been possible. He perfected his body and mind through practice so sustained and precise that he eventually created presence where none should exist — manifesting as spirit while still alive, then continuing past the threshold of mortality entirely.

He did not seek godhood. He sought perfection. Godhood was where the path ended.

What He Does

Aberum reveals himself to disciplined individuals across the world, regardless of their faith or origin. He does not maintain a formal church in the conventional sense — his followers find him in monasteries, in training halls, in long solitary practices. During Aberith, the eighth month, monasteries across Ardentis observe full silence for the duration.

He is worshipped everywhere that discipline is understood as its own form of devotion: among martial orders, contemplative communities, and those who believe that perfecting the self is a form of service to something larger.

Position in the Pantheon

Aberum became an almost equal of the Flame — the god whose teachings he originally followed — without displacing or opposing her. The relationship is unusual: a mortal who studied under a divine framework and then approached its architect's level. The Flame regards him with something between pride and wariness.

The Lord of Deception views Aberum's followers as a resource. Disciplined minds that have surrendered their ego to a practice are, in the right circumstances, extraordinarily exploitable — the practice becomes the vector. The Lord of Deception has made attempts to co-opt Aberum's followers through subtle theological corruption. Aberum is aware of this and is careful about who receives his direct attention.
